House shows support for Islamic faith

To the editor,

We Muslims, are overjoyed to learn that the House of Representatives has unanimously passed the "Ramadan Bill."

By doing so, the House of Representatives has recognized the Islamic faith as one of the great religions of the world as Muslims now number 1.5 billion. All faiths have sprung from the same God and have observed fasting for the purification of one's self.

The Holy Quran tells us "O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become righteous." (2:184)

Fasting brings people closer to God and humanity and that is the intent of us all. Thus by acknowledging and observing the fasts of Ramadan we will create a better society with understanding among various faiths and help bring the much needed brotherhood and peace to the world.

We also appreciate that the House of Representatives passed a concurrent resolution condemning bigotry and violence against Arab-Americans, American Muslims and Americans from South Asia.
